Platz ties all-time EOU homer mark

ASHLAND — EOU split its doubleheader affair at Southern Oregon Friday, setting up a three-way tie in the middle of the conference standings.

The Mounties fell behind in the opener, rallied, but lost 11-10 in eight innings. They rebounded in the night cap with a 5-2 win.

Leading the way at the plate was Megan “long ball” Platz, who hit two more home runs in the doubleheader, pushing her season total to 10 dingers, tying Beth Hull for the all-time EOU season mark.

In the first game, EOU trailed 8-1 in the second inning, but crawled back into the contest. Teri Cisler entered the game in relief on the mound, pitching nearly five innings, striking out three batters, and was the victim of two unearned runs.

Melodee Mildenberger (3-for-5), Platz (2-for-4, home run, 3 RBI) and Lydia Holm (2-for-5) led the way at the plate.

Game two was better.

Kelly West picked up the win on the mound (six innings, five hits, two strikeouts, two walks) and Cisler earned the save (zero hits).

Vanessa Wood (2-for-4, two doubles), Michelle St. John (2-for-2, two runs) and Platz (home run) led the way at the plate.

Also, Megan Monaghan and Crystal Weseman each had an RBI.

EOU coach Missy Wheeler credited the Mounties’ approach for rallying in game one, then responding in game two.

“They don’t give up,” she said. “They don’t know what that means. You have no idea that they just lost the game.

“They don’t change their approach. I think it’s a demonstration of their character.”

EOU played at Oregon Institute of Technology today in Klamath Falls at 11 a.m.
