RAIN ROOFING RALLIES TO PULL GAME OUT

COMING FROM BEHIND: La Grande's Kelly Moore drove in three runs in Rain Roofing's come-from-behind opening game win Wednesday night over Baker City. (The Observer/PIERRE LaBOSSIERE).

Aggressive base running and three miscues in the field by Baker helped the La Grande Rain Roofing American Legion boys rally for four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a come-from-behind 7-6 win Wednesday.

Rain Roofing went into the fifth inning down 6-2.

Aaron Thomas led off the inning with a bunt single, then went to second on a wild throw.

Thomas stole third, then came home to score on a groundout by Kelly Moore. It was Moore's third RBI of the game.

In the sixth, La Grande was still down 6-3, but the Rain Roofing base runners stayed greedy, stealing at will and going for the extra base to force bad throws.

Trent Evins led off the inning with a single, then Jeremy George had the hit that really sparked the rally.

George bunted to the right side of the infield. The perfectly placed bunt got past the pitcher for a single, and Evins kept going, rounding second base and making it safely to third.

Thomas had a base hit that got by the Baker right fielder, scoring Evins and George to make it 6-5.

La Grande's Brenton Dowdy was hit by a pitch, then stole second. The throw from the Baker catcher got past the second baseman and Thomas came in to score, tying the game at 6-6.

Dowdy went to third on the throw and came home with the go-ahead run on a passed ball.

Travis Hoskins pitched three scoreless innings for Rain Roofing to earn the win.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the La Grande boys lost 10-8.
