SLOPE STYLE EVENT WON WITH 900 JUMP
NORTH POWDER The Slope Style Competition Saturday at Anthony Lakes had a great park built by J.P., Ryan Cook, and Scott Frasier.
There were three table-top jumps (all about 30 to 40 feet long), and four rails. The park started with a table-top, and then had two rails side-by-side, then another pair of rails side-by-side, then two table-top jumps at the bottom. The riders had a choice of hitting either rail, and putting together their own "line" through the terrain park.
The skier side of the competition was won by Chris Greger, 20, of Kuna, Idaho. He is a ski instructor at Bogus Basin.
Greger landed a 720 off the second table-top, then a 900 off the next table-top jump.
"That's the first 900 I have ever landed!" Greger said.
Joe Blatchford, 21, of Haines, took second. Blatchford won the competition last year.
Aaron Goodman, originally of Baker City, but now a resident of Mammoth Lakes, Calif., took third in the skiers' category.
Avery Smith, 13, of La Grande, won the 15 & under class for the skiers.
The snowboarding side of Slope Style was very close. Jared Johnson, 18, Baker City, took first with a variety of moves on the table-top jumps and the rails.
