The La Grande 14-year-olds defeated Wallowa Valley 16-5 Friday at the wood bat baseball tournament held at Optimist Field. The La Grande 15-year-olds beat Milton-Freewater 12-6 in the tournament, too.

The La Grande 14-year-olds took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth, scoring nine runs to take a 12-5 leading heading into the final frame.

La Grande's Zach Nice hit a two-run double to left to start the La Grande comeback. Jacob Johnston followed with a one-run single, then Richie Carmichael ran home on a passed ball.

La Grande led 7-5 and never looked back.

Wallowa Valley trailed 3-0 after the first inning and came back to tie the game on Kainoa Delatori's one-run single in the top of the third.

Wallowa's Kaleb Oveson hit a two-run double in the bottom of the first.

Delatori scored a run in the top of the fourth inning to put Wallowa Valley ahead 4-3 before La Grande came roaring back in the sixth.

La Grande 15-year-olds

Vance Kern hit a two-out, three-run triple in the bottom of the second to give the La Grande 15-year-olds a 6-0 lead.

The Milton-Freewater team crept back with a two-run single in the top of the third to make it 6-2.

In the top of the fourth, the Milton-Freewater team hit a one-out, two-run single to close to within 6-4. A passed ball made the score 6-5.

Milton-Freewater tied the game with a two-out, one-run single in the bottom of the fourth.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, La Grande's Mike Nichols scored from third.

La Grande's Travis Ludwig padded the lead with a one-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning. A passed ball scored two La Grande runs in the sixth.

La Grande's John Chess hit a one-run single to make the score 11-6. Mitch Myers followed with a one-run single to close out the scoring.

The tournament concludes today with five games on the schedule at Optimist Field. The first game started at 10 a.m.
