Stangel leads Enterprise/Joseph softball

JOSEPH— Call it The Theresa Stangel Show.

She propelled Enterprise/Joseph to a 23-4, five-inning victory Wednesday versus visiting Adrian, and her big bat started quickly.

In the first inning, with the bases loaded, Stangel belted a grand slam — her eighth home run of the season — part of a day that finished 3-for-4 with 7 RBIs.

She wasn’t alone, either. Summer DeSpain went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBIs.

“They’ve just crushed the ball all year long,” Enterprise coach Travis Huffman said. “I’m just thankful — the top of my lineup has been doing a great job.”

Seven RBIs? That was enough for Stangel to beat Adrian by her lonesome, but, you wouldn’t hear that from her.

“She’s kind of reserved, really, when it comes to that,” Huffman said. “She doesn’t really focus on herself — more of just how the team did.”

And the team is now moving on to play Wallowa at 1 p.m. Friday.

“They’re a much improved team from last year,” Huffman said about his upcoming opponent. “I just hope we can bring our ‘A’ game against Union, if we can get by Wallowa.”
