Stewart cashes in at Chief Joseph Days

JOSEPH — The 64th Chief Joseph Days came to a close Saturday in front of a near sell-out crowd at Harley Tucker Memorial Arena.

Jason Stewart, the Royal City, Wash., native who spends his summers in La Grande, won the all-around cowboy title. He collected $3,344 after finishing near the top of the steer roping and team roping standings.

Stewart edged out Pendleton’s RC Landingham’s $3,121.85 from bareback and bull riding events.

Landingham won the bareback title.

Barbra West of Oak Harbor, Wash., earned $1,643.88 after a top time of 17.39 seconds in barrel racing.

Team roping duo Riley and Brady Minor finished atop the team roping standings. Each left the Wallowa Valley with $874.

B.J. Campbell’s aggregate score finished just ahead of Ethan Thouvenell in steer wrestling. Campbell finished fourth after the second Go Round and Thouvenell finished seventh.

Campbell finished third in the all around standings.

Ryan Fornstrom of Boise collected $1,193.83 after his first place finish in tie-down roping.

Josh Daries’ score of 82 won the bull riding event. Only four riders scored in the event. Daries win total was $2,140.50.

Despite not scoring Saturday, Frank McKay’s score of 85 easily won the saddle bronc title and $2,017.80.
