FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — The La Grande Swim Club had four swimmers compete at the Northwest age group regional swim meet March 22-25.

The LGSC boys placed 25th among 96 teams.

More than 900 swimmers from Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming competed in this high-level meet.

“This is a highly competitive meet, with an enormous amount of pressure placed on these swimmers,” head coach Darren Dutto said. “Our swimmers performed very well.

“Our boys are very competitive. Just being at this meet is an accomplishment, but to place so well as a team is a real testament to the dedication of our swimmers. People are really noticing our presence at these higher level swim meets.”

Thirteen-year-old Jared Miller had a strong performance at the meet, Dutto said.

He placed third in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1-minute, 59.37-seconds, which was the 30th fastest time in the nation posted this year for 13-year-old boys.

He took third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.87, which is the 40th fastest time in the nation this year.

He also placed third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4-minutes, 58.20-seconds.

“Jared had an outstanding meet,” Dutto said. “He posted personal best times in every event he swam and raced well with some of the top 13 year old swimmers in the nation.”

Fifteen-year-old Bryce Ebel was crowned 100 butterfly champion, winning with a time of 52.61. He also placed eighth in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.55 and 10th in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:06.71 in the boys’ 15-18 year old division.

“Our main focus for Bryce was in the 100 free and 100 butterfly,” Dutto said.

“In addition to being a fantastically swam race, the 100 butterfly time qualifies him for senior-level meets. This was one of our primary goals.”

Twelve-year-old Garren Dutto swam to a 13th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:34.15 and a 19th-place finish in the 400 individual medley with a personal best time of 5:09.48.

“Garren swam a really great 400 IM,” Coach Dutto said. “He is a strong swimmer and is on pace to have a great summer season.”

Twelve-year-old Justin Miller swam to a 27th place finish in the 200 backstroke, posting a time of 2:28.09.

Ten-year-old T.J. Clay qualified for this meet, but didn’t attend due to illness.

All five swimmers qualify for the Western Zone swim meet this August.
