La Grandes girls dominated Fruitland in the Tigers tennis home opener Friday.

The Tiger girls served a shutout, winning four singles matches and three doubles matches in straight sets en route to a 7-0 win over the Idaho team.

The girls played pretty well overall, La Grande Mike Schireman. There were a few who could have read the ball better, but for their first outing, considering a lot were nervous, they did exceptionally well.

La Grandes boys ran into a different wall, winning their three doubles matches but falling in their three singles matches for a 3-3 tie.

The boys doubles did well. On our singles side, we were missing our No. 2 singles player (Trampus McCrae), so we probably would have picked up a win there, Schireman said.

Even with his top two singles players losing, Schireman was pleased with their effort.

Both Levi Morrison and Jeff Scott, even though they lost, they hit the ball pretty well and got some serves in.

Our guys ran into some good tennis players. Thats the bottom line, he said.

La Grande doesnt play again until it travels to Fruitland on March 30.
