VALE The La Grande Tigers won two much-needed Greater Oregon League softball games Thursday.

La Grande swept its doubleheader against Vale, winning 7-4 and 10-0 and snapping a seven-game losing streak.

We just had a lot of people do their job. Everybody stepped up today, La Grande coach Nicole Christian said.

La Grande (3-8 overall, 2-4 league) got strong pitching from Megan Caldwell, who pitched three-plus innings of relief in the first game and then held the Vikings to two hits while going the distance in the second game.

I was really impressed with Megan, Christian said. Starter Des McCoy did a great job, but we brought Megan in in the third just to mix things up and they couldnt touch her. And if they did, we had great defense behind her.

The Tigers slowed down the errors that contributed to the losing streak, committing three in the first game and none in the second.

We just had great plays over and over, Christian said.

Vale made the mistakes, making six errors in each game.

In the first game, La Grande took a 6-2 lead in the second inning on a two-run single by Lauren Sternfeld, who also had two hits in the second game.

Caldwell drove in three runs in the second game on two hits, including a two-run double that highlighted a five-run seventh inning.

La Grande doesnt play until a doubleheader at home Thursday against Riverside.
