TUCKER CARDS AN 83
By The Observer
BAKER CITY La Grande High School ended up third Wednesday at the Baker Invitational golf tournament, but girls coach Candy Brooks had smiles about her golfers performance.
In spite of bees and bum luck, the girls played really well, Brooks said. One of our girls was not donning a smile, but I just know Ill see that smile return when we play Pendleton (today) and at districts.
La Grandes Kelli Tucker had reason to smile after shooting an 83 on the 18-hole course, one stroke shy of tying Pendletons Jenny Cerreghino for medalist honors.
Kelli Greenough came in next for La Grande at 96. Carrie Waldrop shot a 103, a good score considering she had a 10 on a short par 3 hole.
Sommer Presley was stung by a bee and struggled with her short game, Brooks said, but she still shot a respectable 108. Nicole Lewis had a pair of 55s and finished at 110.
Junior varsity scores included a 113 from Bess Buzzard and a 143 from Joellyn Hasse.
La Grande competes today at the Pendleton Invitational, which also features Enterprises, Unions and Wallowas girls team. The tournament, which starts at 1 p.m., will be played at the Pendleton Country Club.
