TURNOVERS BANE FOR ELGIN FOOTBALL

ELGIN — The Elgin Huskies undid themselves in a disastrous second quarter Thursday night.

The Huskies gave up 25 points in the second quarter en route to a 31-6 loss against a physical Weston-McEwen squad.

Elgin had three fumbles and a blocked punt in the first half. Weston-McEwen scored most of its touchdowns off those miscues.

Vance Horn scored a touchdown for Elgin by recovering a blocked punt in the end zone in the fourth quarter. Chad McDonald made the block.

Charlie Schumacher had a memorable game. On a pass play in the flat, Schumacher was leveled as he took as vicious of a (clean) hit as a player will ever see in high school football.

Amazingly, he not only managed to hold onto the ball for a six-yard gain, he actually shook off the tackle and trotted back to the huddle.
