TWO ACES FOR LA GRANDE'S PERKINS
A La Grande man had two hole in ones at Buffalo Peak Golf Course this month.
Ron Perkins, who is the assistant to La Grande's city manager, was surprised about his first hole in one.
"It was ugly," he said. "The gophers would have loved that one."
He used a pitching wedge on hole No. 3, which is 100 yards, June 6.
Doug Winn, Mike Craiger and Bob Mason witnessed that one.
In his second hole in one, he had a 7-iron shot on No. 12, which is 210 yards, June 21.
"It was real pretty," Perkins said. "It was one to die for."
JoAnn Naff, Gary and Christine Rood, Ernie Perkins and Amy Brownell witnessed it.
Perkins has been playing golf since the course opened in 2000. These are the only hole in ones he has had.
He jokingly said he was hoping to win a car.
But, of course, none is offered at the Union course during regular play.
