Blake Partney helped the Subway A’s salvage a split against The Dalles Wednesday. Partney warmed up his bat during an 13-9 loss in Game 1, and picked up an 8-6 win on the mound in the nightcap. “He did a good job for us,” La Grande manager Eric Yundt said. “We didn't play that well in the opening game, but the boys picked it up.” Any doubts of a pitching duel left Optimist Field early. The A’s built a 4-0 lead in the second inning, but wouldn’t last long. The Dalles scored six times in the third. The teams traded leads again, but The Dalles held the upper hand after scoring five runs in the fourth, taking an 11-7 lead. “We were saving some of our pitching for a tournament this weekend,” Yundt said. “We just didn’t throw enough strikes.” Partney and Austin Woordward each collected a double in the opening game, and finished with two hits. Woody Stockhoff had a two-run triple. La Grande jumped out early and struck again late in Game 2. The A’s grabbed a 6-2 lead after three innings, but lost the advantage in the top half of the sixth. La Grande pushed two runs across in the home half of the sixth to seal the game. The A’s will travel to the Hermiston tournament Friday.
