PENDLETON — A partial squad of the La Grande baseball team split with Pendleton Saturday. The Tigers opened with a 9-7 win, but fell 6-3 in the night cap. “It was good to see some people back,” LHS head coach Mark Lanman said. “We played pretty well, but need more time out on the field.” Thanks to a tarp donated by Linfield College, the teams were able to get their games in. “It was nice to peel back the tarp and see some dry ground,” Lanman said. Anthony Nice returned from the state basketball run and collected a single in his first trip to the plate. Josh Yundt, also a member of the state basketball team, ripped a double in Game 1. However, the players with more practice time made the difference. Jacob Johnston drove in three runs with a home run in the first inning. The Buckaroos chipped away at the 6-0 La Grande lead to even the score 7-7 after seven innings. With two outs, Richie Carmichael hit a bases loaded double to drive in the winning runs. Josh Homan picked up the win for the Tigers. Mistakes spelled trouble in Game 2. La Grande committed three errors, and passed balls opened the door for Pendleton. “We’re still working some things out,” Lanman said. “Once we settle down, the boys played good baseball.” Evan Humphreys paced the Tigers with five hits on the day, including a pair of doubles. La Grande will host DeSalles in a make-up doubleheader Wednesday at 4 p.m. Game 1La Grande 601 000 02 - 9 9 2 Pendleton 310 002 10 - 7 12 0 W: Homan.
