No. 9 La Grande road win extends streak to 11 games

FRUITLAND, Idaho — For the first time in his three years at the helm of the La Grande boys basketball team Mark Carollo brought a win back from Fruitland, Idaho.

The Tigers bounced back from a slow start to pick up their second win against the Grizzlies this season, 63-46 Tuesday night, extending La Grande’s winning streak to 11 games.

“It’s a non-league game in the middle of the week,” Carollo said. “During league sometimes it’s hard to get up for a game like that. We came out a little slow. Fruitland is a good team and they jumped on us.”

The Grizzlies built a 13-4 lead early in the first quarter, but La Grande was able to battle back to even the score 17-all after the first quarter.

Brandon Cederholm provided a spark off the bench in the second quarter, scoring all nine of his points before the half, helping the Tigers outscore Fruitland 20-11 in the second quarter.

“We didn’t play that well in the first quarter and it was tied up,” Carollo said. “We talked about that after the quarter, and the boys did a great job of regrouping.”

Junior Brandon Dall led La Grande with 19 points. Jake Powell added 14 points, while Troy Williams finished with 11.

La Grande (12-2 overall, 2-0 GOL) will host Ontario at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
