La Grande extends winning streak to 13 games

BURNS –– The La Grande boys basketball team (14-2 overall, 3-0 GOL) won a non-league game against the Burns Highlanders (9-11 overall, 3-1 EOL) 55-47 Saturday.

Coach Mark Carollo said that  it’s tough to win on the road.

“We played tough defense and managed to escape with a win,” Carollo said. “Burns came out and played hard with a lot of energy.”

The Tigers shot 83 percent from the free-throw line making 15-of-18 attempts, a season high for the team.

Brandon Dall had a team-high of 16 points,  and made 10-of-11 free throws. Troy Williams finished with 14 points, making one 3-point basket and 1-of-2 free throws. Tyson Wicklander added 11 points.

Despite a stellar effort by Ontario’s Jason Hauter, the La Grande boys basketball team picked up a 65-50 win in a battle between the Greater Oregon Leagues only undefeated teams Friday.

The rest of Ontario’s roster couldn’t seem to find the bottom of the basket. La Grande (13-2 overall, 3-0 GOL), on the other hand, kept the passing tight and set up one basket after another.

Brandon Dall had a team-high 18 points for La Grande. Troy Williams added 14 points, making 5-of-8 free-throws attempts. Jake Powell scored all nine of his points in the second quarter.

Hauter finished with a game-high 27 points. Ryan Hawker added seven points for Ontario (12-5 overall, 2-1 GOL).

La Grande’s boys will travel to Nyssa for a non- league game starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
