Tigers rip apart Baker with sweep

BAKER CITY — The La Grande baseball team swept rival Baker Friday to wrap up the Greater Oregon League schedule. The Tigers won the opener 13-6 and took the second game 13-3 in five innings. LHS was able to rally from a 3-1 deficit in Game 1. La Grande struck for six runs in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth. Then in the seventh, the Tigers added four runs to a 9-6 lead to down their rivals. Garret Avila got the win on the mound, striking out 10 in five innings of work. Logan Lankford had four RBIs for LHS, while Erik Jacobs finished with five hits. The Tigers outhit Baker 15-9, while both teams had two errors. La Grande stayed hot in Game 2, jumping out to a 9-3 lead after three innings, before putting up four runs in the fifth. Kaleb White got the win, pitching four innings and striking out six. Lankford had three more RBIs, while Jacobs and Jordan Rogers each had two. Jacobs and Tyson Wicklander both had three hits. LHS finishes 7-5 in the GOL, while Baker is now 3-9. Ontario finished the season with an 11-1 mark. Ontario and La Grande are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the latest OSAA 4A rankings. LHS travels to play DeSales (Washington) Tuesday at 4 p.m. to wrap up its regular season. |
