UNION COUNTY BASEBALL TO PLAY FOR TITLE

Union County's Cody McKague had three strike outs Monday against Harney County at the Babe Ruth All-Star Tournament. (The Observer/RAENELLE KWOCK).

The Union County 13-year-old All-Star team will play for the District 3 Babe Ruth Tournament championship at 6 tonight.

Union County played Harney County again and won 13-1 under gloomy skies and several lightning strikes in the distance.

The game was halted during the fourth inning with the score in favor of Union County 4-1, as umpires waited for the lightning to pass. The game resumed after a brief delay.

Anthony Nice led Union County with three hits, one of which was a triple. He also batted in three runs.

Travis Lugwig, Cody McKague, G.D. Clark and Jacob Johnston all had one hit. Taylor McIntosh had two hits.

In the first inning, McKague singled driving in Union County's first run. In the second inning, after McIntosh's base hit and Josh Homan's walk, Nice had a one-run single.

In the third inning, after McIntosh's two-out single, it led to Johnston's RBI triple.

Harney committed eight errors in the game leading to several Union County runs. Union County had no errors.

Union County belted out 10 hits. McKague recorded three strike outs, before Richie Carmichael came in the sixth inning picking up two strike outs.

Union County will battle SRV tonight. SRV hammered Baker 10-0 Monday. SRV and Union County remain undefeated with 4-0 records. Grant beat Wallowa County 13-2 Monday.
