BAKER CITY — Union County held off the Harney/Grant Nationals 10-9 in eight innings in the North Oregon Babe Ruth 15-year-old All-Stars Baseball Tournament Friday.

Coach Mark Lanman said it was an ugly game, but Union County showed character to pull out the win.

"The kids wanted it," he said.

Union County's Jordan Lanman went 3-for-4 at the plate with a first inning home run and Travis Hudson came in and pitched in relief in the bottom of the second inning with one out and already down by two runs. Hudson pitched 6 2/3 strong innings only allowing one earned run on three hits and six strike outs.

Hudson led off the game with a walk and Ryan DeWitt reached base on an error. Hudson then scored on a wild pitch and Jordan Lanman came to the plate and hit a two-run home run. Landon Weaver kept the inning going with a single and Mitch Myers drove Weaver in with a RBI single.

In the top of the third, Lanman singled and Weaver walked, Kaden Titus then hit a bases-clearing triple that was initially ruled a home run but it bounced off the top of the fence.

The top of the fifth, Lanman was hit by a pitch and Weaver and Kyle Walton had back-to-back singles. Lanman then scored on a wild pitch and Titus hit a sacrifice fly to score Weaver. Walton later scored on Mitch Myers bunt single.

Union County held Harney/Grant Nationals scoreless but in the bottom of the seventh with two outs, and nobody on base, Union County made three errors and allowed Harney/Grant Nationals to tie the game and send it to extra innings.

In the top of the eighth Weaver had a sacrifice fly that drove in what turned out to be the winning run.

The eight-team round robin tournament runs until July 6.
