By The Observer Union Countys rally fell just short in a 22-20 loss to Pendleton Tuesday in the championship bracket of the District 3 Girls Little League Minors Softball Tournament at Pioneer Park. Trailing 22-16 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, Union scored four runs but still came up short. Pendleton jumped to a 9-0 first inning lead, but Union County rallied to tie the contest 11-all heading into the top of the fifth inning. Thats when Pendleton exploded for 10 runs to take a 21-11 lead. Union scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull within 21-16. The loss dropped Union County into the consolation bracket, where it will play Wallowa Valley at 3 p.m today. Wallowa Valley won its third straight game by eliminating Baker 15-3 in a four-inning contest Tuesday. Baker started with two runs in the top of the first, but Wallowa put the game away with an 11-run response in the bottom of the frame. Ashley Graning belted a double and a home run to lead Wallowa.
