UNION The Union Bobcats scored the first four points and after that, the match was practically theirs.

The Wapiti League-leading Bobcats, even with a close second game, controlled Enterprise and came away with an important 15-4, 17-15 prep volleyball victory Tuesday night.

We played very well tonight as a team, Union coach Patty Herron said. Their defense played better the second game than the first one, but we jumped on them.

Enterprise made too many unforced errors, coach Lisa Farwell said, and lost control at the start.

Union came out strong, and we played in panic mode from that point on, Farwell said. We just played with no confidence, basically. You could just tell that Union played with confidence and we didnt.

Unions Jana Brotherton led the hitting attack, connecting on all 21 of her attempts and getting 10 kills.

She got up on a couple of blocks and that just set the tone for the game, Herron said.

Setter Melissa Helmer put the ball where it needed to be, according to Herron. Helmer had 10 assists to go with two serving aces.

Union made just four hitting errors and got four kills from Sarah Bomberger and two from Shonda Titus.

Enterprise was led by Ashley Andersons 12 kills. Maya Waldron had five kills.

At 8-1 in league, Union (15-3 overall) has a 1-game lead over Wallowa (15-6, 6-2), which kept pace with a 15-3, 15-13 win Tuesday over Elgin.

Enterprise (12-4, 5-3) is 2 games back and hosts Imbler for homecoming Friday. Union hosts Elgin Friday.

Wallowa still on track

ELGIN The Cougars kept time with Union pretty much the same way Union defeated Enterprise: start strong and hold on at the finish.

Wallowas 15-3, 15-13 victory over Elgin wasnt pretty, however, especially in a second game that saw Wallowa slowly rally from a 13-8 deficit.

We had some good, long rallies, and then it was which team would make a hitting error, Wallowa coach Terri Wilson said.

With Elgin leading 13-8, there were 15 changes of service before the Cougars scored, according to Wilson. She counted 45 changes of service in that game alone.

In the second game we had the lead and just couldnt get any serves over, Elgin coach Leeann Case said.

Wallowas defense was led by sophomore Megan McLean, who had 11 blocks, seven of them solo. Laura Lewis had 15 digs and Lynique Oveson added 13 digs.

Elgin (6-10, 2-6) got eight kills from Leanne Foster and strong defense from Kristen Schumacher, Case said.

Wallowa hosts Joseph Friday.

Imbler evens record

NYSSA The Imbler Panthers stayed in fourth place and evened their league record to 4-4 with their 17-15, 16-14 victory Tuesday over Nyssa.

Imbler (8-11, 4-4) held on to win the first game and had to come from behind in the second game.

The Panthers got strong performances from their middle blockers. Emily Correll had 18 blocks and Stacey McKinnis added 15 blocks. Amy Clerget was 10-for-10 serving with three aces.
