Union CC takes fifth in Hermiston

Hermiston —Union placed fifth out of nine teams at the Hermiston Invitational Saturday.

“We were very happy to get fifth since we were the smallest school in the varsity division,” head coach Steve Sheehy said. "We were beaten by Boise, Richland (Wash.), Hermiston and The Dalles.  Against that type of competition, we’ll take what we can get.”

Tom Sheehy lead the boys team with a fourth-place finish, running in 17:09. Gabriel O’Reilly also ran a good time at 17:39.

Nur Sofe lead the La Grande boys finishing in 22nd place with a time of 18:07.17.

Kate Stewart led the girls team with a 16th-place finish in 22:16.  Madelaine Olsen, Kathryn Hepler, and Hanna Crow all ran very well for their first 5K races of the season.

Sophomore Mollee Shaw led the Tigers with a 23:05.55. She finished in 22nd place.

La Grande and Union run at the Catherine Creek Scamper Saturday hosted by the Bobcats. The races start at 2:30 p.m. at Catherine Creek State Park.
