Union baseball beats Sherman County, 9-1

UNION — Welcome home.

After spending a week and a half in John Day, the Bobcats baseball team returned home in style.

Behind the arm of Brian Savely, Union defeated Sherman County, 9-1.

“We wanted to get (Brian) some work,” Bobcats head coach Greg Poor said. “He’s been closing out games, but hadn’t thrown too much lately.”

Savely responded by tossing a one-hitter. The senior struck out eight batters, while issuing one walk.

Union broke the game open in the fourth inning.

Austin Woodward led off the inning with a double.

After a Kaden Titus single and a hit batman, Cody Billman drove in a run with a single.

Matt Smith capped the inning with a double scoring two runners.

Woodward and Titus finished with three hits apiece.

The Bobcats played Corbett at 10 a.m. today. Dufur will challenge Union at 2 p.m.
