ADRIAN — Baseball is a game of inches, and Union missed a milestone by that same margin. The Bobcats (13-3 overall) continued their hitting binge, pounding Adrian, 13-1 and 15-0 Tuesday. However, it was pitching that made the difference. “We got two phenomenal games from our pitching staff,” Union head coach Greg Poor said. Kyle Langford set the tone by gunning down the Antelopes in Game 1. The right-hander allowed one run, picking up the win. Langford helped out his own cause with two hits, a double and a home run. He drove in four runs. Brian Savely also collected a pair of hits. The senior smacked a home run and drove in two runs. Game 2 was literally near perfect. Starter Austin Woodward struck out the first nine batters he faced. Senior Kaden Titus entered the game in the fourth inning, with Union ahead 14-0. He struck out six, but one got away. A curveball on strike-three found its way to the backstop. Adrian had its first base runner — but it was short lived. A pick-off play erased the mistake a few pitches later. Woodward followed in Langford’s footsteps, helping his own cause. The freshman belted a home run, while collecting three hits and driving in three runs. Calvin Stout finished the day with four hits. Next on the schedule is a doubleheader at Elgin (8-1) at noon Saturday. |
