Union sweeps middle school invite titles

Union runners won both the boys and girls races Saturday in the middle
school division of the Dry Side Shootout on the Eastern Oregon
University campus.
Kathryn Sheehy edged teammate Abriel O'Reilly for the victory in the
girls division, both with a 13:36 clocking, as the team won the title
with 15 points. The Union squad was the only school to have five
scoring finishers in the race.
The Union girls had Jamie Baxter take third in 13:53, while Ashley
Ricker was the fourth Union runner to finish, taking eighth in 14:54.
Union had four runners take 11th through 14th, slamming the scoring
door on the rest of the schools in the meet.
Union's Michaela Ferguson took 11th in 15:07, followed by Lizzie Verhelst
(12th, 15:22), Ashley Scott (13th, 15:34) and Gracee Montgomery (14th, 16:18).
Ruby Ferguson finished 16th in 16:18.
Blackburn wins boys title
Jason Blackburn won the boys race in 12:07 by a 16-second margin over
Tyrone Diamond of Enterprise.
Jeremy Baxter came in third for Union in 12:24, just ahead of teammate
Alex Graffunder (fourth, 12:28).
Braden Crews of La Grande took fifth in 12:39, the second of only two
non-Union runners to break into the top nine finishers.
Jaxon Blackburn took sixth place in 12:39, right behind Crews.
Matthew Sheehy (seventh, 13:50), Israel O'Reilly (eighth, 14:02) and
Wyatt Brown (ninth, 14:16) took the next three places.
Enterprise's Nathaniel Diamond came in 10th with a time of 14:34,
while his teammate Calum Wilcox was 12th in 15:19.
