HALFWAY — Union/Cove had no trouble scoring runs in a doubleheader sweep of Pine Eagle Tuesday in Special District 7 baseball action. The Bobcats rolled to a 20-2 victory in Game 1 before running away with a 19-8 decision in Game 2. “Overall it was a great day,” coach Greg Poor said. “We hit the ball really well and played great defense. We were able to throw four pitchers and played 17 kids. So it was a great day for the program.” Union/Cove broke open a scoreless Game 1 in the second inning with 12 runs before going for four in each of the third and fourth. Brenlon Moore was two for three with six RBIs, while Kaleb Poor was three for three with four RBIs. Poor got the win, going three innings and striking out seven while allowing no hits. The Bobcats battered the Spartans’ Austin Davis for 16 runs in three innings of work. Pine Eagle made Game 2 a little closer, but Union/Cove kept the bats alive. The Bobcats got four runs in the second, eight in the third, then added seven more over the third and fourth to pick up the nine-run win. Chris Ross was four for four with four RBIs, Coon had five RBIs to go along with two doubles and Dalton Opie finished two for three with an RBI.
