WALLOWA MAJORS FACE MUST-WIN

By Raenelle Kwock

Observer Staff Writer

A heartbreaking loss was dealt to the Wallowa Valley Major All-Stars Tuesday.

Pendleton rallied past Wallowa Valley for a 6-3 win at the District 3 All-Star Tournament at Pioneer Park.

Wallowa Valley must beat Milton-Freewater at 3 p.m. today to stay alive in the tournament.

"We did well," manager Warren Wilson said.

Wilson said Pendleton was able to pick from about 25 kids for its team, while Wallowa Valley had fewer than 20 in its pool.

He said questionable calls during the game were hard on the kids because they did not know how to react to them.

Wallowa Valley held a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning before a passed ball in the top of the fourth scored another Wallowa Valley run.

In the bottom of the fourth, Pendleton's Dan Fisher smashed a solo home run. After Fisher's shot, Matt Baty drove a double deep into the outfield. Jon Mitchell's one-run single tied the game in the bottom of the fourth.

Wallowa Valley's Andrew Wilson cranked a solo home run with two outs in the top of the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth, Pendleton reclaimed the lead with four runs.

After two strike outs in the top of the sixth, Josh Davis got on base after drawing a walk. Sam Garnett's bunt did not throw off Pendleton's infield. He was thrown out at first base to end the game.
