Saturday must seem like an eternity ago to Wallowa Valleys minors all-star team.
Since dropping a 13-6 contest to Baker City in the District 3 Girls Little League Minors Softball Tournament opener, Wallowa has won four straight games, culminating with a 14-9 victory over Union County Wednesday.
The win sets up a title bout with undefeated Pendleton for 2 p.m. today. If Pendleton loses, a second game will be played to decide the district title at 2 p.m. Friday.
It didnt take long Wednesday for Wallowa to set the tone in its game against Union.
Eight straight walks led to four Wallowa runs in the top of the first inning.
Union County responded in the bottom of the inning, taking advantage of three walks of its own when Kiley Dewey nailed a two-run double that went past Wallowas right fielder to pull within 4-2.
But thats as close as the game got.
Wallowa scored three runs in the second off an Ashley Burgess two-run single to center field and when Jamie Micka scored on a bases-loaded walk to Ashely Graning.
Wallowa added two runs in the third inning and three in the fourth to take a 12-3 lead.
In the final three innings, Union tried to mount a rally, scoring two runs in each frame.
