WALLOWA VALLEY REMAINS ALIVE AT DISTRICT

By The Observer JOHN DAY Wallowa Valley needed a late two-run rally but managed to get past Union Countys all stars Monday at the District 3 Little League Majors Baseball Tournament. Wallowa broke a 5-all tie by scoring two runs in the top of the fifth inning for a 7-5 win, eliminating Union County in consolation-bracket action at the 11- to 12-year-old tournament. Wallowa will play Owyhee at 3 p.m. today. Kyle Stewart started the fifth-inning with a leadoff single. Colton Weber followed two batters later, hitting a one-out double off the right-center field fence to score Stewart. Bret McCleary drove Weber home to cap the scoring with his third hit of the game. In other action, La Grandes all-stars were eliminated from the tournament Monday, falling to Baker City 12-0. In consolation play Sunday, La Grande beat Triangle of Athena 8-4, Wallowa Valley stomped Pilot Rock 13-3 and Union County edged Harney County 2-1. On Friday, Pendleton beat La Grande 3-1 in the championship bracket, and Ontario defeated Wallowa Valley 12-0. Nationals top Josephs Babe Ruth tournament JOSEPH The Snake River Valley Nationals stormed through the North Region District 3 Babe Ruth 13-year-old Baseball Tournament. The Nationals went 4-0 by defeating the Grant-Harney county all-stars Saturday 6-2 in the championship contest. Jason Noland led SRV, hitting 3-for-4 and pitching the first three innings. Wallowa, Union drop from District tourney BURNS Wallowa Valley and Union County dropped out of the District 3 Babe Ruth 14- to 15-year-old Baseball Tournament Sunday. Wallowa Valley fell to Harney County 3-2 Sunday in the consolation bracket and lost to the Snake River Valley Nationals 5-2 Saturday. Wallowa eliminated Union County Saturday in a 13-7 consolation-bracket contest. Union County dropped its second game of the tournament 5-0 to Grant County Saturday morning. |
