UNION – A 56-53 loss to Vale in the final game of the season ended the Union girls' playoff hopes.

Vale took their first lead with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter after trailing by as much as 15 in the first half.

"Vale has tremendous team spped and depth, which got to us a little bit in the second half," Union head coach Wayne Herron said.

Union (3-7 Wapiti League, 10-12 overall) was led in scoring by April Savely's 16 points.

Elgin boys miss playoffs

ELGIN –The Elgin boys saw their season come to an end with a 58-46 Wapiti League loss to Grant Union Saturday.

Elgin (3-7, 9-12) needed a win to have hopes of qualifying for the district tournament this week. They finished the year.

"Our guys played well .... They had a lot of heart," Elgin co-head coach Jason Crawley said..

Elgin led 11-6 after one quarter, but was outscored 34-25 during the middle two periods.

J.T. Keating netted 16 points and nine rebounds and Charlie Schumacher added 14 points and six assists for Elgin.

"For my first year I couldn't ask for better seniors," Crawley said. "Their dedication is more than I could ask for."

Grant Union over Elgin girls

ELGIN – Grant Union poured in 20 points in the final period en route to a 55-36 Wapiti League win Saturday over Elgin.

The Huskies (0-10 Wapiti, 4-16 overall) were within a point of Grant Union in the final period, but Josie Bartlett connected for three 3-pointers to build a lead.

"The girls played well," Elgin head coach Floyd Powers said. "They stayed in there and didn't give up."

Union boys finish season

UNION – The Union boys finished the regular season Saturday, losing 76-56 to Vale.

Vale hit seven three-pointers against the Bobcats and shot 24 free throws to Union's two.

Kasey Townes led Union (0-10 Wapiti League, 2-19 overall) in scoring with 18 points.
