Ontario took first place with an 844, Heppner placed second at 851 and Baker was third at 888. While the Lady Tigers didn’t qualify as a team, Carrie Wallace managed to take third overall after shooting an 88 on Day 1 and a 94 Tuesday for a total of 182. Teammate Kayli Miles rallied to place fifth. The freshman shot a 95 Tuesday after carding a 98 on Monday to finish at 193 and qualify for state. Miles didn’t make it easy on herself, though. After just two holes Tuesday, Miles was 10-over par and went out in 53. But, Miles sizzled on the back nine, bounced back with a score of 42, her best nine holes of any tournament. Ontario’s Riley Hemlick won the individual crown with a two-day total of 178. Heppner’s Blake Greenup finished a 179, while Burns’ Maggie Thompson (185) finished fourth between the two La Grande golfers. The rest of the LHS competitors had memorable days as well. Tessa VanLaarhoven shaved seven strokes off her Day 1 total 136 to shoot a 129. Cassidee Miller cut 15 strokes off her total to record a 127, her best 18-hole finish. And Dez Kellogg improved by 23 strokes from the first day to shoot a 147. Wallace and Miles will compete at the state golf tournament starting Monday at Eagle Crest Golf Course in Redmond. |
