Governing Board Members at the Eastern Oregon 4-H Leadership retreat include Georgia Falk and Madison Falk from Wallowa County.
Five Wallowa County kids attended the annual three-day 4-H Eastern Oregon Leadership Retreat March 7-9 in John Day.
The retreat began with mixer activities that enabled 4-H members from the six Eastern Oregon counties to get to know one another. The next two days were stuffed with classes that gave members the opportunity to learn and use their leadership skills. Classes included impromptu public speaking, problem solving, teamwork, financial management and organization. All classes were interactive, allowing for “hands-on learning.”
Wallowa County members, Madison and Georgia Falk taught a class on impromptu speaking to approximately 70 of their peers. Other 4-H’ers from Wallowa County were Maddie Tracy, Teagan Miller and Bryce Melville.
The participants at the Eastern Oregon Leadership retreat not only learned the importance of community service but put it into practice while in John Day. Some helped clean around the Grant Union High School, while others assisted at the local baseball fields. This allowed members to see that community service is teamwork, fun, beneficial and rewarding.
