World voices sing out
Speak Up! Sing Out! World Voices will take place at 7 p.m. March 19 at Joseph School when world history and choir students present songs and speeches based on individuals who have impacted history.
Admission is free but donations will be accepted at the door, with proceeds going to enhance the school’s history and music programs.
The event follows last year’s format of American Voices of Change. Sophomore students in the world history class received a special course in public speaking for the past four weeks taught by Drama Adviser Pam Latta.
Based on their personal interests and passions and their favorite time period in world history, students were assigned speeches by people who have impacted the world. Students will dress as the speaker when giving the speech.
Alexander the Great, Marie Curie, Charlie Chapin, Eva Peron, Emperor Hirohito, Jackie Robinson, Bernice Sanders, Severn Suzuki, Mother Teresa, Princess Diana of Wales, Kevin Rudd, Jack Buck, Malala Yosafzai, Prime Minister David Cameron, William Wallace, Pearl Buck and Dr. Temple Grandin will be represented.
An addition to this year’s program is the Joseph choir performing selections from the world’s best music. The finale will be “USA for Africa: We are the World” in which the audience will be invited to sing along.
