SUMMERVILLE - The Summerville Baptist Church will begin the celebration of Resurrection Sunday with a family breakfast at 9:45 a.m. A special service of Scripture and music will follow at

11 a.m.

La Grande Methodist hosts sunrise service

The La Grande United Methodist Church is sponsoring an ecumenical sunrise service at 6 a.m. at the Grandview Cemetery.

A potluck breakfast will follow at 9 a.m. and a worship service at 10. The sermon will be "Spoiler Alert Someone Told" and the Scripture is Mark 16:1-8.

'Christ Has Arisen,' sings the choir

COVE - The Easter service at Grace Community Lutheran Church in Cove will begin at 10 a.m., during which the choir will sing "Christ Has Arisen." A free Easter breakfast will be served from 8:30 a.m. to

9:30 a.m.

This evening Grace Community will remember Christ's death with a Good Friday service at 7 p.m. Transportation is available for all services.

Cove, Union combine services Sunday

COVE, UNION - There will not be a service at the Cove Methodist Church Easter Sunday. The church family will be joining the Union Methodist Church for a potluck breakfast at 9 a.m. followed by the Easter service at 10. Rev. Ernest Smith will deliver the message "No Plastic Easter."

Cove Methodist Church's Bible study now meets on Mondays at 11 a.m. at the church.

The Cove Fresh Food Alliance is hosted at the church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays. The Cove Food Pantry is on the third Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to noon.

Episcopal Church lights a 'new fire'

LA GRANDE - St. Peter's Episcopal Church in La Grande will observe Easter Sunday with Holy Eucharist at 9 a.m.

The Rev. Kathryn Macek will preside and preach. The service will begin with the lighting of the "new fire" and the procession of the paschal candle. A festive coffee hour will follow the service.

Centering Prayer is

offered Tuesdays and Morning Prayer from the Book of Common Prayer is offered Thursdays; both services are at 8:30 a.m. in the chapel. A midweek Eucharist is offered Wednesdays at

12:15 p.m., also in the chapel.

Hope is message of guest speaker

LA GRANDE - Saturday morning at the La Grande Seventh-day Adventist Church guest speaker Sam Onjukka will present a message on hope.

He will share how only through Jesus can absolute hope with the promise of abundant life be found for now and into the future.

No challenge or circumstance, including death, can take this away, because He rose again! The 11 a.m. service will also feature a children's story and worship in song.

Only the brave will toss a raw egg

Zion Lutheran Church in La Grande will worship at 9:30 a.m. with Pastor Colleen Nelson, celebrating a festival Easter service with music accompanied by Matt Cooper on organ and Max Irons on trumpet.

After the service during the coffee hour there will be Easter treats with gifts for the children and a "raw egg toss for the brave."

Music between brunch and service

LA GRANDE -Grace Bible Church in La Grande will celebrate Easter with a brunch at 9 a.m. rather than the usual 9:30 a.m. Bible study, congregants are encouraged to play or sing a song of praise, adoration and celebration of the risen Savior.

Pastor Phil Garwood will then bring a message from John 5:1-29 at the usual

11 a.m. worship service.

A nursery is available during the regular service for children 3 years old and younger.

Valley Reformed Church moves

LA GRANDE - Valley Reformed Church will be meeting in the conference room of the Union County Extension building, 10507 N. McAlister (across from Bronson's) in Island City, through Sunday.

Beginning April 3, the congregation will meet at the Union County Senior Center, 1504 N. Albany St., La Grande.

Tree to be decorated with flowers

The La Grande First Presbyterian Church's 9:30 a.m. Easter celebration will include the Lord's Supper, organ, piano, bells, hymns and liturgy.

The sermon will be "And Their Eyes Were Open," based on Luke 24:1-49. Congregants are encouraged to bring flowers to be placed on the Christmas Tree Cross during the singing of the first hymn. There will be an Easter egg hunt after the service.

Isaiah told of Jesus, the 'Lamb of God'

The Easter celebration at the La Grande Church of Christ will include a potluck and an egg hunt. Pastor Doug Edmonds will present the lesson "God with Us: The Lamb of God," focusing on Isaiah's prophecy of the Messiah Jesus Christ our Lord. Communion is taken every Sunday.

Sunday morning classes for all ages are offered at 9:30 a.m., and the worship service follows at 10:30. "Kingdom Kids" is available during the sermon for children age 2 through kindergarten.

On Wednesday evenings the congregants meet for small groups at various homes.

Easter egg hunt at Lady of the Valley

Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church is having an Easter egg hunt on Sunday.

It begins after 10 a.m. Mass on Sunday at about

11 a.m. on the church lawn. It is open to all children age 12 and under. Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church is located at 1002 L Ave.

Methodist Church hosts Good Friday

On Good Friday at 7 p.m. the La Grande United Methodist Church congregation will be joined by congregants of the other "Fourth Street Churches":

First Christian Church, First Presbyterian Church, St. Peter's Episcopal Church and Zion Lutheran Church. The service, which is open to the community, will include special music and prepare worshippers to ponder the impact of Christ's death and await the coming Resurrection. The Methodist Church is located at 1612 Fourth St.
