Thanks to a grant from the Wildhorse Foundation, last week the 65-year-old gym at the Riveria Activity Center in La Grande got a fresh lease on life with a new roof.

In 2003, Community Connection of Northeast Oregon took over the former Riveria Elementary School building with the goal of turning it into a county-wide, multi-functional community resource, supporting educational and recreational activities for children and adults.

The roof is just one project aimed at breathing new life into the old building, according to Rochelle Hamilton, executive assistant at Community Connection.

The organization aims to apply for more grants and is looking for community members and businesses to donate time and money toward the projects.
