Faith Lutheran celebrates Good Shepherd Sunday
LA GRANDE, ENTERPRISE — Faith Lutheran Church will observer the fourth Sunday of Easter, which is recognized as Good Shepherd Sunday, at 10 a.m. in La Grande and at 2 p.m. in Enterprise. The sermon will expound on John 10:11-18, in which Jesus Christ identifies that he is the good shepherd who laid down his life for the payment of mankind’s sin.
Don’t bind yourself to your anger
LA GRANDE — “Anger” will be the focus of Pastor Ray Smith’s message at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in La Grande during the 10 a.m. service. The message comes from Matthew 18:15-20: “Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven.” All are welcome to join a potluck fellowship luncheon immediately following worship.
Zion hosts non-denominational Bible study
LA GRANDE — Zion Lutheran Church in
La Grande will worship at 9:30 a.m. with Pastor Colleen Nelson. During the sermon, a class is available for children. Fellowship and fair trade coffee follow the service.
On Tuesday, the ZLCW Bible study meets at 9:30 a.m. That evening at 6 p.m., the church hosts a non-denominational Bible study.
St. Peter’s observes Earth Day
LA GRANDE — St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in La Grande will observe Earth Day with a special Eucharist at 9 a.m. The Rev. Kathryn Macek will preside. Kim McClain, executive director of Ascension School in Cove and chair of the Diocesan Commission on Environmental Justice, will be the guest preacher. The Discernment Committee will meet after the service.
Centering Prayer will be offered Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. in the chapel. A midweek Eucharist will be offered Wednesday at 12:15 p.m., also in the chapel.
Bible studies meet in Island City
COVE — Grace Community Lutheran Church in Cove will celebrate the fourth Sunday of Easter with a worship service beginning at 10 a.m. Pastor Carl’s sermon, “The Good Shepherd,” will be taken from John 10 in which Jesus says he is the good shepherd who will die for his sheep. Adult Bible study is held at 9 a.m., and a time of fellowship follows the service.
The women’s Bible study meets at 10 a.m. Thursday at Urban Vine in Island City. The men’s Bible study meets at 10 a.m. Thursday at Island City City Hall.
Foot-washing communion service planned
LA GRANDE — Guests are welcome to join in and experience a communion service that includes the traditional practice of foot washing during the 11 a.m. Saturday service at the La Grande Seventh-day Adventist Church. John 13 tells of Christ practicing this tradition with his followers and sharing the Lord’s Supper. Bible study is offered at 9:30 a.m.
The community is invited to a free “Hope Through Prophecy” seminar beginning April 25. The eight-week seminar will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays in the Community Connection conference room at the Union County Senior Center, corner of Cove Avenue and Albany Street in La Grande. The series will systematically explore the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation.
