Eastern Oregon came close to starting its opening weekend in Cascade Collegiate Conference volleyball action undefeated.

The Mountaineers, one night after breaking an 11-year losing streak to Southern Oregon, fell to Oregon Tech 30-26, 25-30, 30-27, 30-28 at Quinn Coliseum.

The mark dropped Eastern to 1-1 in the conference and 3-3 overall.

Eastern couldnt take advantage of 10 Oregon Tech service errors. The visiting Owls outhit Eastern, racking up 73 kills to 57 for the Mountaineers.

Elaine McKinstry led Eastern with 19 kills. Sara Kirby added 13 kills and 13 digs. Kari Broker had 40 assists and four blocks. Mariah Dodrill and Erin Phelps added five blocks apiece. Cassie Beyer led Eastern with 14 digs.

Eastern travels to Portland and plays Concordia Friday, followed by a Saturday match at Salem against Western Baptist.
