SCHOOLS STAY COURSE WITH WEEKEND GAMES

Schools in Northeast Oregon are taking Gov. John Kitzhabers advice and keeping a normal schedule for sporting activities this weekend.

I strongly believe that its business as usual for high school football this Friday night, said Steve Walker, sports information director for the Oregon High School Activities Association.

We believe that decisions about what schools should do in this situation are best decided at the local level, by the people in those communities, said Tom Welter, executive director of the OSAA.

La Grande High School went ahead Tuesday afternoon with regularly scheduled home matches against Weiser, Idaho, and Pendleton.

People wanted to know (if we would have matches), but the governor came out and said lets keep things going as normal, La Grande High School Athletic Director Verl Miller said Tuesday.

Eastern Oregon Universitys football team is scheduled to play Weber State on Saturday in Ogden, Utah. School officials said Wednesday that game would go on. The team will be using bus transportation and will not be affected by a nationwide ban on flying.
