BOARDMAN A consistent, team effort was just what the La Grande High School volleyball team needed Thursday night.

La Grande controlled both games against Riverside, winning the Greater Oregon League match 15-6, 15-6.

The kids played real consistent; it was a really strong effort from everybody, La Grande coach Teresa Dowdy said.

La Grande went into the match needing to catch up some ground in the race for one of three state playoff berths. At 3-5 in league, the Tigers are 1 games behind Ontario for the third playoff spot.

Ontario lost to Burns Thursday, 15-7, 15-8. Ontario and Vale, also ahead of La Grande in the standings, come to town Saturday for league matches.

La Grandes Kylie Moore led the serving with two aces, and Kelli Greenough was the teams top hitter with five kills on 10-for-10 hitting.

Freshman hitter Kathryn Ely, filling in for the injured Kaci Lyman, was 12-for-14 hitting with two kills. Lyman has an injured ankle and may not play Saturday.

Setter Danielle Tams had several dumps that threw them off play, Dowdy said, and Kristi Short and Kiley Moore had strong defensive play.

La Grandes matches Saturday are at noon against Vale and at 6 p.m. against Ontario.
