BAKER CITY Baker eliminated La Grandes playoff hopes with a 15-6, 15-3 Greater Oregon League volleyball victory Thursday.

La Grande fell to 4-8 in GOL competition, four matches behind Baker (8-4) with two matches remaining Saturday at Grant Union and Burns.

Baker moved two matches ahead of Ontario in the chase for the leagues third state-playoff berth. Grant Union beat Ontario Thursday, 15-9, 7-15, 16-14.

Baker just had a little more on the line, La Grande coach Teresa Dowdy said. They knew that a win for them kind of secured a (playoff) spot.

Baker built an 11-2 lead in the first game before La Grande rallied for four-straight points. The second game started even, but Baker got a 6-2 lead and cruised from there.

La Grande missed only one serve in the match, with Katelin Weaver going 9-for-9. Kelli Greenough was 6-for-6 with three hitting kills, Caylin Goss was 9-for-11 with two kills and Kaci Lyman was 10-for-11 with one kill.

La Grande finishes the season Saturday at Grant Union and Burns.
