NORTH POWDER The biggest cheers Friday for the Powder Valley Badgers came on a pair of two-point conversions, which were pass plays to a lineman.

That 6-foot, 265-pound junior guard Kylee Simonis easily caught the two passes and a scrambled screen pass late in the Badgers 67-14 rout of Monument-Dayville-Mitchell was a surprise to many.

Those are the first three hes caught all season long, teammate Anthony Swales said. He hasnt caught any in practice.

Weve only been doing it for a week, Simonis admitted.

Powder Valley could afford to throw to its lineman. By the time Simonis touched the ball, his team had a 53-0 lead in the second quarter of the District 4-1A playoff game.

Monument-Dayville-Mitchell scored twice against the Badgers third-string defense, which came into the game halfway through the second quarter.

We just had to use it for what it was, and that was a tuneup for next week, Powder Valley coach Alan Stanfield said.

It wasnt much of a challenge for a team that enters next weeks state playoffs with a 9-0 record. Powder Valley will play Condon, a team that the Badgers beat 44-32 early in the season.

Condon blew an 18-point lead late in Fridays game against Ione but came back to win 46-40 and wrap up the Big Sky Conferences second playoff spot.

Four different Badgers scored in the first quarter, and three of those touchdowns were one-play drives.

Brody Turner had two touchdowns, a 60-yard pass from Todd Baxter and a 56-yard run. Baxter also threw a 58-yard score to Riley Martin and a 15-yarder to Ryan Browne. Baxter also had an 11-yard touchdown run and a 77-yarder.

David Dozhier scored twice in the second quarter, first on a 1-yard run that came after the games only turnover, and second on a 45-yard run with four seconds to play.

Browne also had a 35-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

The Badgers biggest concern is a lack of quality playing time for their starters. When Saturdays playoff game arrives, those starters will not have played a full game since beating Jordan Valley six weeks ago.

Weve been running the last few weeks in practice to get ready, Simonis said. Well be ready to play a full game next week.
