VOLLEYBALL TEAMS FIND WINNING FORMULA

MONMOUTH Cove and Powder Valley took one step toward meeting each other in the OSAA-U.S. Bank Class 1A Volleyball State Championship title match.

In the opening round Friday, Cove easily beat Damascus, 15-3, 15-10, and Powder Valley survived Days Creek, 15-4, 10-15, 15-8.

Details of the matches were unavailable.

Cove (26-2) faces Elkton today, and Powder Valley (19-3) will play Dufur. If the Leopards and Badgers win, they will meet Saturday evening for the 1A championship.

The tournament is being played at Western Oregon University in Monmouth.

Union, Wallowa win in consolation bracket

MONMOUTH The Wapiti League turned one bad day into a good one Friday at the OSAA-U.S. Bank Class 2A Volleyball State Championships.

One day after losing in the opening round, Wallowa and Union came away with wins in the consolation bracket.

Union (21-6) defeated eighth-ranked Corbett, 15-6, 10-15, 15-10, and Wallowa (23-10) beat Glendale, 15-13, 15-10.

Details of the matches were unavailable.

Today, Union plays Cascade Christian and Wallowa faces Regis.

The tournament is at Western Oregon University in Monmouth.
