The magic and wizardry of the Harry Potter book series will come to life for children in La Grande this weekend.

And not just because the movie, Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, will be opening here.

A program An Evening at Hogwarts is being put on by the Think Link Discovery Center on Saturday. It will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Friendship Center.

It will be an exciting opportunity for wizards in training, said Think Link Director Kathy Davis.

Children will learn how to write their name using the rune alphabet of the Harry Potter series. They will be involved in face painting, decorating wizard hats and broomsticks, learning about herbs and healing and much more.

At the end of the program, children will receive a Hogwarts report card. Hogwarts is the school the Harry Potter character attends.

The program costs $4 per person or $12 per family. People are encouraged to preregister because space is limited. People can preregister at Think Link, 906 Washington Ave., or by calling 975-2040. Think Link is open weekdays from 3 to 5:30 p.m.

All activities will be supervised by adult volunteers. Volunteers who will be assisting include students from Imbler and Elgin high schools Future Business Leaders of America chapters.

Saturdays program is part of the effort being made at Think Link to tie classes and workshops with childrens literature.

Davis began planning An Evening at Hogwarts several months ago. She scheduled it for Nov. 17 long before she knew that the Harry Potter movie would be opening this weekend.

There really must be magic, Davis said.
