ELGIN LIGHTS WAY TO ALL-AMERICAN HOLIDAY

November 25, 2001 11:00 pm

ELGIN Elgin is inviting everyone to come on over Saturday and join in an All-American Light Parade to kick off the holiday season.

The Elgin Lions had 24 entries registered for the parade by Thanksgiving and expect more groups and businesses to join in before the parade sets off at 6 p.m. Saturday. Lineup starts at 5:30 p.m. and no advance registration is needed.

Ann Warren of the Lions said all entries are encouraged to be lighted, since the parade will be traveling the route from Henderson Oil, on the Tollgate Highway, through downtown Elgin and ending at the Stampede Grounds.

The parades official theme is The All-American Light Parade, she added.

And once again, the parades top entries will be going home with more than just the cheers of the crowd.

A first-place cash award of $300 will be given, a second-place award of $200 and a third-place award of $100 will make the evening a bit warmer for those participating.

Terry Shepherd, 437-0608, can be contacted for more information about joining in the parade.

And those who come out to cheer for their favorite parade entries can make an evening out the of event, Warren said. The Elgin Stampeders will be hosting a chili supper at the Stampede Hall after the parade, accepting donations from those who would like to grab a warming bowl of chili.
