NORTH POWDER A fully loaded Elgin squad ran over the Huntington Locomotives on Friday at the Powder Valley Basketball Tournament.

Elgin, playing with all of its players for the first time this season, pounded Huntington 62-22 in the non-league game.

I felt the older kids came out and played hard and kept the intensity, Elgin coach Kyle Evans said.

Elgin (3-1) had a 16-4 lead after the first quarter and led 34-9 at halftime.

Jake Williams led the Huskies with 14 points, while Brandon Burgess added nine.

Nyssa nicks Cove

IMBLER Devan Frank scored 21 of Coves points but the Leopards couldnt overcome the Nyssa Bulldogs in a 49-38 loss Friday at the Imbler Tournament.

Cove had a slow start two points in the first quarter but rallied to within four points in the fourth quarter.

We missed a lot of easy shots, Cove coach Todd Gorham said. I thought we were there in the game if we could cut down on the mental mistakes.

Justin Marler added nine points for Cove (0-4), which plays Imbler in todays tournament consolation game.

Third dooms Imbler

IMBLER A third quarter surge propelled City Christian of Portland past Imbler 68-34 on Friday.

The game was an opening round contest at the Imbler Basketball Tournament.

City Christian led by four points at halftime before outscoring Imbler 23-0 in the third quarter.

Several Imbler players were not at full strength because of the flu.

Imbler will face Cove at 2:30 this afternoon in consolation action at the tournament.

Cougars thump Wheeler

CONDON The Wallowa Cougars held Wheeler County to just one free throw in the fourth quarter of their 61-35 victory Friday at the Condon Tournament.

I didnt realize they only scored the one point, Wallowa coach Gerry McLain said. They were down the whole game and kind of gave up.

Casey Smergut paced the Cougars with 22 points, with Randy Spaur adding 13 and Shane Byers 12.

Jon Moore scored 18 for Wheeler, but fouled out in the fourth quarter.

He hurt us inside. He ran over folks, but he ran over them too many times because he fouled out, McLain said.

Wallowa (2-2) plays Condon in todays championship game.

Stanfield shoots to win

PILOT ROCK Stanfield hit four 3-point shots in the fourth quarter to hold off Enterprise 71-56 at the Pilot Rock basketball tournament Friday.

Enterprise fell behind early but rallied in the second half.

We had a good third quarter but ran out of steam in the fourth, said Enterprise coach Duff Pace.

Enterprises Kyle Crawford led all scorers with 22 points. Junior Tim Gilbert was another Enterprise standout, Pace said.

He controlled the ball well and played a solid game, Pace said.
