The Eastern Oregon Mountaineers need to find a way to play a full 40 minutes instead of just the first 18.

Western Baptist had a 22-0 run that stretched between the first and second halves and walked away with a 77-52 Cascade Collegiate Conference victory at Quinn Coliseum.

Eastern coach Art Furman attributed the breakdown to inexperience in his system.

I truly believe that weve got a lot of inexperience, Furman said. It just pains me to see us get outexecuted down the stretch offensively and defensively, and youve got them scrambling because theyre not used to this situation.

Baptist trailed 19-13 10 minutes into the game, but Easterns final lead of 21-20 came with 5:22 left in the half. The game was tied 23-23 when the Warriors went on their run, which was triggered by bad Mountaineer passes.

The lead extended to 27 points as the Warriors continued to shoot well (56 percent for the game) and Eastern continued to shoot poorly (32 percent in the second half).

Eastern (3-4 overall, 0-1 conference) didnt score in the second half until Jeremy McLean hit a 3-pointer at 14:42, cutting Baptists lead to 19 points.

Eastern, which returned just a handful of players from last years team, hasnt found a way to put together a complete game this year. The three wins were all come-from-behind.

We played pretty doggone good basketball for 18 minutes, Furman said. At halftime, we were down by 11 and I didnt feel like we were out of the game.

Ryan Roberts led Western Baptist (12-2, 1-0) with 18 points. Matt Elliott and Drew Langstraat each scored 11 and Nick Plotts added 10.

No Mountaineer scored in double figures. Trevor Exline scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds. Ty Miller came off the bench to score eight points.

Rebounding was one area where the Mountaineers improved. After getting pounded on the boards in losses to Whitworth and Walla Walla, Eastern outrebounded Baptist 32-28, including a 19-10 edge on the offensive boards.

Eastern resumes conference action tonight in a 7:30 p.m. game against Concordia at Quinn Coliseum.
