UMATILLA GIRLS HAND UNION ITS FIFTH LOSS IN SEVEN GAMES

UMATILLA The Union Bobcats played better but came up short Wednesday in a 48-41 girls basketball loss to the Umatilla Vikings.

Jana Brotherton scored 15 points for the Bobcats, who struggled in the second quarter and could never recover.

Were getting better. Theyre not a bad basketball team. We felt we had a chance to win, Union coach Wayne Herron said.

Brotherton has had three real strong games in a row now. We cut down on our turnovers and we shot better from the field (42 percent), he said.

Kallin Prince added 13 points for Union. Stephanie Upshaw had eight assists and Sarah Bomberger grabbed five rebounds.

Union (2-5) plays host to Powder Valley tonight.
