You can recycle your Christmas tree at either of two sites in La Grande rather than burning it.

Boy Scout Troop 511 will be set up at the Bi-Mart parking lot from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday to help people dispose of their trees. Pickup service is available by calling 963-6099 or 963-8044.

The La Grande High School swim team plans a similar tree collection effort from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the high school parking lot. For pickups, call 963-9880 or 963-0681.

There will be a $3 cost if you take your tree to either site. It will cost $5 for pickup service at your residence.

The recycling effort in lieu of burning the trees is in conjunction with the La Grande Air Quality Commission, which has identified wood smoke as the major source of air pollution in La Grande during the winter.

The recycled trees will be transported to Ladd Marsh for animal cover.
