LG WINS PAIR OF CENTRAL OREGON TOURNEY

REDMOND La Grandes girls basketball team notched its first win at the Central Oregon Holiday Tournament Thursday.

The Tigers beat Century of Hillsboro 69-53 and advanced to the championship semifinals, where they will play Ashland at 6 p.m. today.

The second quarter proved pivotal as La Grande held Century to five points, giving the Tigers a 32-18 halftime lead.

Christie Weaver led the Tigers with 18 points. Amanda Schuft added 13 and Karli Nebeker had 10.

It was tough. We had to take a long drive, watched a little bit of the game before us and then played, so we had no time to relax, La Grande coach Isaac Williams said.

LG boys win in overtime

REDMOND Seth Pennington led La Grande over Junction City in overtime Thursday at the Central Oregon Holiday Tournament.

Pennington scored 25 points as the Tiger boys basketball team won, 68-65.

La Grande (3-5) will take on Scappoose at 5:30 p.m. today in the championship semifinals.

The Tigers went 9-for-10 at the free throw line in overtime and were 20-for-32 for the game.
