ENTERPRISE After more than an hour in a closed session Monday, the Wallowa and Union County commissioners took no action concerning the purchase of the railroad between Elgin and Joseph.

The counties and the railroad are still trying to negotiate a deal to allow the counties to assume control of the railroad, Wallowa County Commission Chairman Mike Hayward said after the meeting.

We will continue to negotiate, but the counties have more questions that need to be answered.

He would not repeat any discussion that occurred in the executive session, but said, I think fairly shortly we will know something.

The counties were trying to buy the line to prevent salvage of the rails, which were scheduled to be removed beginning today.

Union County Commissioner John Howard said this morning, There are issues we are still trying to resolve.
